How to use Hard Disk as Virtual Memory

Hard Disk as RAM using Virtual Memory!!!!

What is virtual memory?

                                               If your computer lacks the random access memory (RAM) needed to run a program or operation, Windows uses virtual memory to compensate. To find out how much RAM your computer has, see  SYSTEM PROPERTIES (By Right-Click Computer-->Properties)

Virtual memory combines your computer’s RAM with temporary space on your hard disk. When RAM runs low, virtual memory moves data from RAM to a space called a paging file. Moving data to and from the paging file frees up RAM so your computer can complete its work.

The more RAM your computer has, the faster your programs will generally run. If a lack of RAM is slowing your computer, you might be tempted to increase virtual memory to compensate.

Now Let`s See How to do it!!!

Step 1: Right-Click Computer --> Properties.

Step 5:On Virtual Memory window... Do the Following as shown in image!!!

  • Untick---> Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives.
  • Select any one DRIVE , In my case, I have selected D: drive.
  • Click on Custom Size and fill out fields such as  Initial Size (MB) and Maximum Size (MB) as shown below!!!In my case, I used 1 GB=1024 MB and 4GB = 4096 MB. you can specify any amount of memory space u need!!!
  NOTE:Initial Size must be lesser than the Maximum size...

Step 6: Finally, Click OK ,Restart your PC make to Changes and check in task manager to check
                                                                                          whether page file has memory increased !!!

Thats iT!!! You have Boosted your PC Performance better than Before!

However,
It is Recommended to add more RAM.. since , HARD DISK is not that much faster as RAM!
